Understanding the Calculations & Formulas

Under GST laws, delay in filing returns attracts late fees and interest penalties. Keeping track of deadlines is crucial to avoiding compliance warnings and preserving input tax credits.

Late Fee Guidelines:

For GSTR-3B & GSTR-1, the late fee is Rs. 50 per day of delay (Rs. 25 CGST + Rs. 25 SGST) where tax is payable. For Nil tax returns, it is reduced to Rs. 20 per day (Rs. 10 CGST + Rs. 10 SGST).

Interest Penalty:

If tax liability is not cleared on or before the due date, interest at 18% per annum is payable on the net tax liability (the tax paid by cash ledger). No interest is charged on Nil returns.
